This is Rubbish!

Term 2 Inquiry : This is Rubbish!!

"Listen to me, I speak for the trees"
This term the junior team is focusing on Rubbish - how
we make it, how it affects the world and how we can
reduce, re-use and recycle.
Room 10 began by watching the original Lorax movie.
Here's what they thought the Lorax was trying to do:

"Stop the people chopping down trees"
"Keep the earth clean"
"Save the animals homes"
"Speak for the trees"

Room 10 decided to be the Lorax & investigate their local environment (the junior school playground) to check how it was looking. Room 10 found a lot of rubbish!

Everyone thought it was "disgusting" and brainstormed what the children of Halswell School could do differently.

Here are some of their ideas:

"Put your rubbish in your lunchbox"
"Put your rubbish in the rubbish bin"
"When you see rubbish in the playground pick it up"
"Remember that our rubbish can hurt animals"

Here is the rubbish Room 10 found.....

  1. Wow Room 10, you found a lot of rubbish! I like your ideas for how to reduce rubbish at school. Believe it or not - the schools we have visited in England have had no rubbish in their playgrounds. They do have their lunches inside as a lot of the children have cooked school dinners each day. I will try and post some photos of the playgrounds and you can see if you can spot any rubbish. From Mrs OC
