Maui

Last week it was Maori language week.  We read different Maori legends and learnt a new waiata to sing at assembly called Nga Iwi E.

The Maori legends that we read had a main character called Maui. During writing we wrote a description of Maui.

Maui is brave because he went to the volcano and everyone else was too scared. He is clever because he found the pit where the sun comes up. He also hid in the canoe when they were going fishing and his brothers didn't know. Sometimes at night Maui and his brothers go fishing. He is a problem solver because he slowed the sun down. Maui is very cheeky.

Maui has lots of tattoos on his face. He is brown and he is brave. He is muscly and strong. He loves fishing and also paddling. Maui is cheeky and smart but mostly cheeky. He has long hair and is Maori.

Maui is Maori and he is brave. He has brown skin and long hair which he wears in a pony tail. Maui has lots of koru tattoos on his face. He is very muscly and strong.

Maui has magically powers. He made the sun move more slowly across the sky by hitting it with his magical jawbone. He also pulled up the North Island with an almighty heave!

Maui is a trickster and mischievous. He tricked his Grandmother to see what would happen if she used up all of her fire. Maui also hid in the waka from his foster brothers.

We think Maui is good and bad because he does try to solve problems but sometimes he is bossy and mean.
