Olympia Gym - Challenging ourselves.

Room 10's 'Memoirs' of their first day at school.

In writing last week we looked at how to write a memoir. A memoir records and describes a moment in our lives. We tried to include lots of detail so the reader has a clear picture of what we are describing. Read our memoirs and see how well you think we did.

My first day at school in Room 2.
I was so shy and scared.  I didn’t like people staring at me for the first time.  Then I noticed that people were smiling at me and that made me feel happy.  My teacher’s name was Mrs Phillips.  She was so nice. When I got there we started to make Christmas stuff.  I made decorations like a Christmas tree and I got to know Makaia, Lilly and Will. They looked after me and played with me. I loved it.  They were very nice friends.  I recognised the smell of my kindergarten.  It was very quiet and at the end of the day I loved it so much.
By Mercedez.

My first day at school I was nervous and sad. I was nervous because there were heaps of people. I was sad because I wanted to go home. I noticed the classroom was the same smell as home.
My teacher was called Mrs Phillips. She was nice because she let me stay with my Dad for a while.
At the end of the day I was happy because my Dad was there to pick me up!

My first day at school. My teacher was Ms Moran and she was nice and quiet. Ms Moran was funny. She was nice because she let us have extra food at the start of the day. It was unfair because at kindergarten you got to choose what you got to do and at school you didn’t. At the end of the day I liked school because you did get to do what you want at lunch and morning tea.

My first day at school when I came in I wanted to go home straight away. I noticed some people. Ms Moran was pretty nice. The classroom smelled really funny. The classroom changed differently one year later because the school was getting fixed.  I didn’t have a desk because I had a tray instead. I like the classroom this way because I can sit wherever I like.

My first day at school in Room 10 I was a bit scared. I was nervous at the start but at the end I was sad because it was the end of school. The teacher was Mrs O’Callaghan and the other teacher was Mrs O’Neill. They were the O teachers and they were really funny and I really love them. Charlie was so nice to me and I knew Coen. We played with each other.

My first day at school I wanted to go home and I wanted Mum, Dad and Sophie to stay. There were two people I knew. They were Caitlin and Izzy. Then I didn’t feel shy anymore because I had friends. It was noisy at reading. I was in the dog group. I was pretending to be a poodle.  I did a play. In the play I was Snow White. My teacher was called Ms Moran. She was nice because she let me sit on the couch. She rolled her r’s when she talked.  I love school now because it was more fun than I thought.

I remember my first day at school. My classroom mat was 4 metres long. I loved the teacher her name was Mrs Corder. The classroom was awesome. It sounded quiet at mat time and noisy at work time. It was unfair that we didn’t get to choose whatever we wanted like we did at preschool. But school is the best because you get to learn lots of things

 By Samuel

I was really scared when I first started school I didn’t know anyone and then I met Samuel.  Samuel was nice and he played with me and sat by me.  He is my best friend. Samuel is really, really, really nice.  Samuel and I played soccer and he let me be on any team I wanted. I picked Wellington Phoenix because I use to live in Wellington.  Samuel was Sydney. I got a goal and it was 1-0 to me. I like school.  I really like school because I like playing soccer at morning tea and lunchtime!

My first day in Room 10 I felt excited. The first thing I saw was the computer and TV. We made our faces. I noticed that I had two teachers. It was fun having two teachers.
By Riley

When I came into room 10 I felt scared but then I saw some people I knew then I felt ok. The first thing I saw was the top left corner of the classroom. There were pictures. I sat by Joe. The first person I knew was Jak. At the end of the day I felt happy because I was going home.

The first day at school I meet Sarah and Miss Moran. Then I saw the writing table. It looked fun so I went over and drew a picture. Then I went to Room 9. The teacher is called Miss Medlock.  Soon Miss Medlock had to go to another country so I went to room 10. Room 10 is bigger than Room 4. I like Room 10.

I remember my first day at school. I was in room 3. First we read. My teacher was called Ms Wright. She was nice. I was really excited because it was my first time at school. A girl called Mya was new too. At lunchtime it was home time because if you’re new you go home at lunchtime for a few days. I had fun and then I went home.
By Tamati

At the first day at school I was in Room 4 and I felt shy. I saw my friend Charlotte then I felt happy. My teacher was called Ms Moran. She was nice because she let us do special things at reading time. Everyone sitting on the mat was really good. The classroom smelt like gum a little bit. Then I felt hungry.  I felt sad when I left to go to Room 10. My new teachers were called Mrs OCallaghan and Mrs ONeill. I am happy I get to be in room 10 for a long time. My favourite bit is maths and topic because we do activities. When it is really noisy I feel sad and
I want to go home.
By Caitlin

My first day at school I was excited because I knew lots of people Charlie, Coen, Samuel, Jackson, Tamati and Jak.  The classroom smelt nice. The teacher was nice. She let me choose a little of the time. I love school. I love topic. I was sad I left school at the end of the day.

'You are what you eat' rap.

Last Friday Room 10 shared their learning about healthy eating with their buddy class and their parents.

At the learning celebration we did a rap. I was the meat. You can see me in the front row of the video.  My mum came and we had a shared lunch. It was fun. I learnt that a pumpkin and tomato are fruit.

Food For Thought

Last week Marewa, a lady from Food for Thought, came to teach us about healthy food. First she got some drinks out and showed us how much sugar is in the drinks. We found out there is no sugar in water. There is a little bit of sugar in milk but it is still a good drink to have. We were surprised how much sugar was in the drinks. Next Marewa talked about the food pyramid and what food we should eat lots of, some of and a little of. Then we each had a piece of plastic food and we put it on the food pyramid. We want to learn more about the food pyramid. By Lilly, Tom, Jak, Mercedez and Riley.
